MIHR seeks to enhance collaboration and engagement with actors within the health sector with the aim of strengthening FP/RH/MNCH outcomes. These actors are in academia and the private sector, including philanthropic organizations and private health care providers such as faith-based health facilities, and other implementing partner organizations. MIHR strategies and activities involving the private sector will involve collaboration with other MOMENTUM awards such as Private Healthcare Delivery (MPHD) among others. Additionally, MIHR seeks to integrate FP in non-health sector areas and activities, such as agriculture, livestock, religious fora, livelihoods, and other activities to increase access to information and services and enhance its important role in improving the health and wellbeing of women and children, as well as community resilience.

The Senior Technical Advisor, Partnerships (Partnerships Lead) will be a key member of the MIHR technical team and provide leadership towards developing frameworks and strategies for cross-sectoral collaboration and innovative partnerships between FP/RH/MNCH and non-FP/RH/MNCH organizations globally.

The Senior Technical Advisor, Partnerships (Partnerships Lead) will strengthen partnerships and collaboration with private sectors, academic, philanthropic, faith-based organizations within the United States and MIHR presence countries.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop/adapt and refine an MIHR framework for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) engagement for corporate and philanthropic partnerships to advance MIHR's strategic partnership vision and in support of FP/RH/MNCH interventions in fragile settings
  • Using the framework for PPP engagement, provide technical assistance to local governments and CSOs to map and analyze potential PPPs
  • Provide technical expertise in the identification, design and implementation of PPP strategies and update/modify the rapid total market assessment tools including building capacity for their use in fragile settings
  • In collaboration with MIHR's Capacity Building Lead and in consultation with MIHR Country Support Program teams, identify, facilitate, and strengthen collaborative and innovative partnership initiatives across health and non-health sectors in MIHR project countries
  • Design new and/or tailor existing public and private sector engagement strategies, tools, and approaches across countries and globally in line with MIHR's strategic partnership vision
  • Develop and keep an updated a map of existing international and national PPPs (for countries with buy-ins) with a focus on the global south and African corporations in countries where MIHR works
  • Map and engage educational institutions in selected countries and in the global South to support country buy-ins and/or the project's core learning agenda and seek opportunities to expand training options in fragile settings
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships with international, regional, national, and subnational public and private educational institutions towards strengthening the pipeline of quality healthcare workers and managers in fragile settings
  • Identify and engage corporate partners and philanthropic organizations at international and national levels in support of MIHR project goals
  • Develop and implement strategies for integration of FP in non-health sector activities, including granting for a cost-benefit analysis
  • Collaborate, as necessary, with other technical specialists within MIHR and other MOMENTUM awards, especially MPHP, and other USAID awards, such as SHOPS to advance the partnership agenda and achievement of MIHR project goals
  • Work closely with the MIHR Capacity Building Lead to develop local and regional partner engagement strategies and strengthen coordination with in-country implementation teams
  • Liaise with the MIHR Global Grant Compliance Director to adapt and use grant materials for training organizations in the global South in close coordination with the Capacity Building Lead
  • Serve as the primary contact for strategic partnership activities and lead the implementation of MIHR's partnership strategy
  • Any other tasks as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION: A Bachelor's degree in public health or relevant field is required. A Master's degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum eight years of relevant professional experience, preferably working with an international organization, or a non-governmental organization is needed.

  • Experience in public-private partnerships, and /or building multi-stakeholder agreements and initiatives, especially focused on a broad range of public health or international development
  • Demonstrated success leading partnership activities within a complex donor and third party funded program
  • Experience working with large donors and working with USG agencies and large corporate, and /or philanthropic organizations
  • Experience in strategic communications and able to develop positive relationships across teams, partners and within the project as well as with other external groups and stakeholders

LANGUAGE: Fluent speaking/reading of English language is a must; fluency in a second language or other languages relevant to the work is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrable partnership and relationship building skills
  • Track record of leading cross sectoral partnerships and ability to sustain collaborative relationships and partnership across diverse stakeholders and in a global capacity
  • Excellent communication verbal and written communications skills and the ability to effectively synthesize information
  • Proven track record of ability to build consensus for diverse audiences
  • Experience successfully leading and managing diverse groups of partners with varying agendas, capacities, and experience
  • Advanced cross-cultural sensitivity, including working with technical and support staff in a multi-cultural, multi-linguistic environment
  • Demonstrated versatility and integrity including leadership, mentorship, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a global team
  • Willingness and ability to undertake 2-3 trips per year, often to remote regions or difficult and/or insecure environments
  • Ability to influence teams where you might have responsibility but not ultimate authority
