What you'll do: The Country Director (CD) is the senior leader and official representative for Corus International in DRC, based in Kinshasa. Country offices serve as the foundation and infrastructure on which Corus' subsidiaries implement programs, projects, and activities, and serve to represent Corus and its subsidiaries at the country level. You will oversee a high quality, compliant, and growing program portfolio with a current annual budget of over $30 million. You will represent Corus International in the country with relevant networks, peer organizations, local communities, the host government, and donor agencies; support the growth of the country program; manage to approved budgets; ensure vigilance and compliance with company, donor, and host country laws and regulations; lead security decision making, communications and protocols; and provide direction to country staff in alignment with Corus International's vision and organizational strategy.

Location: Kinshasa, DRC, with travel to Corus project offices in Goma and various provinces

About The Ideal Candidate: The ideal CD will be a seasoned public health professional with demonstrated strengths in networking, partnership, and representation; excellent leadership and management skills; proven ability to develop, implement, and oversee strategy and knowledge management; and a long and successful track record of business development that leads to organizational growth. The ideal candidate will quickly be able to navigate a complex setting and manage and strengthen relationships with partners at all levels-from the host government to the community. The CD will serve as a role model to staff and will demonstrate excellent coaching and mentoring skills that inspire staff to succeed. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with a multitude of institutional donors and maintaining excellent relationships within a highly matrixed organization.


  1. Bilingual in English and French (Lingala and Swahili would be a plus).
  2. Significant programmatic and technical knowledge about international development in DRC and prior work experience in DRC.  
  3. Knowledge of USAID, WB, FCDO and other bilateral and multilateral funding agencies and private foundations, and in particular their funding priorities, proposal guidelines, procurement, and reporting procedures.
  4. Experience leading and managing a professional and support staff in a multicultural, multi-linguistic environment. 
  5. Ability to travel throughout DRC.  
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 
  7. Professional maturity demonstrated by positive outlook, motivation of self and team to work constructively under pressure; resourceful response to challenges; and acceptance of responsibility for actions, learning, and change.
  8. Analytical thinking that builds logical approaches to address problems or opportunities; draws on own knowledge and experience base and calls on other references and resources as necessary; approaches analysis with an unbiased, impartial view.
  9. Excellent oral and written communication.
  10. Decision-maker who demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and directs and manages change, inspiring teamwork and high performing teams.
  11. Strategic planning and integration demonstrating knowledge and capacity to foster development of a common vision; meets strategic goals by developing short and long-range plans that are appropriately comprehensive, creative, realistic and effective in meeting goals; exhibits leadership in integrating planning efforts across work units.
  12. Recognized expert in global health.
  13. Demonstrated experience in the design, management, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of INGO health and/or livelihoods programming.  
  14. Demonstrated ability to oversee program management staff of 50 or more people.
  15. Deep commitment to Corus International's mission, vision, and values strategy, including capacity strengthening of national staff and local partners.
